This is my rule because 90% of the time I feel better when I practice. I have had break through practices on days I felt like crap. Sharath tells a story about how the best back bend he has ever done was on a day he was sore and tried to convince Pattabhi Jois to let him skip it.
It is also my rule because the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali says, “Practice becomes firmly grounded when well attended to for a long time, without break and in all earnestness.”
When that 10% of the time happens where practicing wasn’t the right solution, I just role up my mat and go home and I am always happy that I tried.
